A password-protected directory or area is a folder that may be accessed only if a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized people could see its content. This option may be used for the primary folder of a given site or exclusively for a particular subfolder based on the needs you have. For instance, when you are creating a new site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being 100% ready, you need to prohibit the access to it entirely, and if you need only some people to be able to access specific files, you can password-protect only a certain folder, while the remainder of the Internet site could be seen by everyone. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear when the login details the visitor types in aren't accurate. Even a direct link to a file will not work given that any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Website Hosting

Setting up a password-protected area will take just a couple of clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites inside a website hosting account with our company. You will not need to do anything complex - you will have to select a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be protected, and then to enter the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. If a number of people need their own login details, there shall not be a problem to create a variety of different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this feature is activated. If you'd like to deactivate the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the very same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to shield any content that you've uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's a part of, so you shall not need to enter any code at any time. You'll simply have to pick one of the domains/subdomains which you have inside the hosting account and to choose which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You can then input the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be ready. The protection will be switched on immediately, so anybody who attempts to access the recently secured folder shall have to input the correct login details. In cases where several individuals must be able to access precisely the same content, you can create a separate username for each of them.
