Sender Policy Framework, or SPF, is a verification system, which is used to stop the so-called email spoofing where an e-mail message can be sent from one email address, but to look as being sent from a different, generally with the purpose to scam the recipient someway. When SPF protection is enabled for a domain, a specific record is generated for it in the Domain Name System and all of the DNS servers around the world get it. The record contains all email servers that are permitted to send authentic messages from an e-mail address within the domain. When a message is sent, the very first DNS server it goes to verifies the SPF record and if the sending server is authorized, the message is sent to the target receiver. In case, however, the sending server is not contained in the SPF record for the particular domain, the e-mail message will not be forwarded and it will be removed. In case you use this service, it will prevent third parties from sending spam emails which seem to have been sent by you.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

When you host your domains in a website hosting account with us and we manage the e-mail addresses for them, you will be able to activate SPF protection for any of them with several clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is accessible in a separate section where you are able to view which domain names are currently protected. For the ones which aren't, you will be able to enable the SPF protection solution and manage a lot of things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and even to create a rule that emails can be sent only when your domains use our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, but you can use it in the event that we handle the e-mails for your domains and you are not using a different email supplier. The newly created records will be activated within 1 day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in a message using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from us, you can protect your emails by activating the SPF protection service for any domain name in the account with only a couple of clicks. This is done through the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel which comes with the semi-dedicated accounts and even when you have no previous practical experience with such issues, you won't have any kind of problems to enable the security. All that you'll have to do will be to choose a domain from a drop-down list and then type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. Once the updated record propagates, messages from your email addresses will be mailed worldwide only if they're sent from that server. If your email addresses are managed by us and not by a third-party provider, you'll also be able to benefit from an option for e-mail messages to be sent only when the domain name has our MX records and the latter is the most secure option. When you have any questions regarding thisfeature, you will be able to get in touch with our support team 24/7.
