Introduced in 1987, Italy’s dot IT country-code top-level domain name extension is quite popular both within the country and in the English-speaking world. The reason is that the domain is a pronoun, which can be used for constructing creative and interesting domain names – write.it, youcanmake.it and so on. This is a way to have an easy-to-learn domain name, so that it will be easier for your visitors to return to your website or to share it with colleagues and fellows. Since dot IT domains are not offered directly by IT-NIC, the Registry organization that manages this top-level extension, such a domain can be registered through a 3rd-party domain provider, such as ours. You can obtain a .IT domain for a year at a time, and the domains are transferable, so you can move your existing domain over to our firm and we will renew it the minute the transfer has been done. The only stipulation is that the person purchasing such a domain must be located in a member state of the EU.

Since there are existing Second-Level Domains that include names of various areas and localities in Italy reserved for local 3rd-level registrations, new names that include geographical regions of any sort are not permitted on any level to avoid any future confusion. We do not offer such 3rd-level domains, though, considering that they can be registered only by locals.
